Editorial Reviews:

Product Description

This groundbreaking book explains the "whats" and "how-tos" of metacognitive therapy (MCT), a cutting-edge form of cognitive-behavioral therapy with a growing empirical evidence base. MCT developer Adrian Wells shows that much psychological distress results from how a person responds to negative thoughts and beliefs—for example, by ruminating or worrying—rather than the content of those thoughts. He presents innovative, practical techniques and specific protocols for addressing metacognitive processes to effectively treat generalized anxiety disorder, obsessive–compulsive disorder, posttraumatic stress disorder, and major depression. Special features include reproducible treatment plans and assessment and case formulation tools, plus a wealth of illustrative case material.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars very good book   December 24, 2008
Pierre Khazen
The book suggests a newer way of dealing with abnormal behaviour rather than the traditional CBT as it frees the client from critisizing his way of thinking; although this therapy was offered some years ago, but it is still newer than the CBT and must be taken seriously. It mainly wants to help the sufferers of the different anxiety states and the depression mood disorder. I recommend this book, as it crosses the boarders of older therapies but still, it lacks some CBT's techniques which are necessary and that is the try to change the incorrect cognition of the client to a more healthy way of thinking and by that, his behaviour changes in return. It rather concentrates on the inner behaviour (cognition) of the clients. In general, a very good book for someone who wants to have a direction as to kinds of therapies are there to be in the future.
